Barrette Fence Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Barrette fence installation in Miami typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete panel-and-post replacement on an average residential lot, with most jobs finished in one to two days. We stock Barrette-compatible rails, pickets, posts, and gate hardware on our trucks, so a failed part doesn’t mean waiting a week for a shipment. Most homeowners call us after a hurricane-season wind gust finally finishes off a post that’s been rotting at the base, or after a gate sags so badly it drags across the concrete and won’t latch. The fence looked fine from ten feet away until it didn’t.

Mason Remodeling Co Miami is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Barrette, but we’ve installed and repaired their aluminum, vinyl, and steel fence lines across Miami neighborhoods long enough to know exactly what fails in this climate and what actually holds up.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette sells through big-box stores under a few names you might recognize: Barrette Outdoor Living, RDI, and the vinyl lines sold as Freedom and Haven. The compatibility gotcha we see again and again in Miami is this: a fence panel from the Barrette Freedom line will not snap cleanly onto a post from the Haven line, even if both are sold as 6-foot panels. The post routs differ by a quarter inch. If you bought a house with an existing Barrette fence and a section failed, matching the series matters more than matching the color strip number.

Identifying what you have takes about two minutes. Look inside the top rail of a straight, undamaged panel. Barrette stamps a series code there, usually a two-to-three letter mark followed by a number. Snap a photo of it before you call anyone. The color code matters too: Barrette’s “Clay” and “Sand” look nearly identical in a photo but different side by side. If the fence is more than five years old, that color has faded in the Florida sun anyway. We always order based on the stamped series, then handle color matching in person before we install. OEM parts are worth buying for visible sections near the front or street side. For a back corner post nobody sees but you, we’ll recommend a quality aftermarket post of the same dimensions and save you about 15 percent.

Signs Your Barrette Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean at the base, especially after afternoon thunderstorms. This is the Miami classic. The post concrete has cracked or was poured too shallow. The post hasn’t failed. The footing did. In Coral Gables and Coconut Grove, where the water table sits high, we see this on fences as young as four years.
  • Gate dragging or not latching. The hinge post has shifted, usually because the gate’s weight pulled it out of plumb. Barrette gate frames are fine; the mistake is almost always a hinge post set without enough concrete or bracing.
  • White or chalky film on aluminum panels. That’s salt and sun eating the powder coat. It starts as oxidation, then the metal underneath pits. A recoat won’t save it once you can scrape the film with a fingernail. Replacement is the honest answer.
  • Route slots cracking at panel ends. Vinyl expands and contracts with Miami heat. If the panel was cut too long and forced into place, the routed ends crack first. That’s a measurement error from the original install, not a materials defect.
  • Pickets popping out of bottom rails. The bottom rail holds water after heavy rain. Over time the rail sags and the picket channels widen. You can push them back in, but they’ll pop out again with the next windstorm.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

For a Barrette fence replacement in Miami, budget $4,130 to $10,620 for full installed scope. That includes removing the old panels and posts, hauling the debris, setting new posts in concrete, hanging your existing gate or installing a new Barrette-compatible one, and a final walkthrough where we check every rail and latch. The range is wide because a 40-foot side yard with three posts is a different job than a 120-foot perimeter with two gates and a curved section.

What drives cost: the linear feet of fence, the number of gates, whether we’re pulling the old post concrete out by hand or with equipment, and whether HOA approval slows the schedule. Every quote from us is a written price before work starts. No change orders, no surprise line items. If we find rot on the bottom rail of a section you didn’t think about, you’ll know the cost before we touch it. Every install includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost.

DIY or Call Us?

You can diagnose a lot without touching a tool. Push on each post. Most should not move. Look for gaps at the bottom rail. Check your gate’s swing. What you shouldn’t do, honestly, is pull a rotted post and set a new one yourself unless you’ve done concrete work in Miami soil before. The catch with fence posts isn’t the digging. It’s getting the post plumb and the concrete packed right, so that first hurricane-season gust doesn’t send your new fence leaning toward the neighbor’s pool. If the post in question is a gate post, you’re also re-hanging weight on a hinge point. Get that wrong and now you have a sagging gate and a cracked post footing. Tell me what you need done. I’ll tell you what it costs and when it’s finished – and I’ll mean both.

FAQs

A dining nook with a built-in banquette

How long does a Barrette fence last in Miami?

A properly installed Barrette aluminum fence lasts 15 to 20 years in Miami before the finish fails; vinyl lasts 12 to 18 years before UV starts making it brittle. The weak point is almost never the panel itself. It’s the post footing, the gate hinge, or a bottom rail holding water. A poorly set post can fail in as little as three years, which is why the install matters more than the brand. Call (850) 780-8123 and we’ll tell you honestly whether a full replacement is worth it or a repair buys you another few years.

Can a failed Barrette section be repaired instead of replaced?

Yes, if the damage is limited to one or two panels and the posts are still plumb. We replace the panel, re-route the ends if needed, and color-match to the faded fence. If all three posts in the section are leaning, repair is throwing money at a footing problem. Call (850) 780-8123 for an exact assessment; estimates are free.

How long does a Barrette fence panel swap take?

A single panel replacement usually takes one to two hours from arrival to cleanup. A gate re-hang with a new hinge post takes half a day because the concrete has to cure before we re-hang weight on it. Full perimeter replacements run one to two days on a standard Miami lot. You’ll get a start time and a finish time in writing before we begin.

Do you stock Barrette-compatible parts in Miami?

We stock Barrette-compatible rails, pickets, posts, gate hinges, and latches on our trucks, along with matching hardware for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone cabinetry and surfaces we install across other projects. If your exact series isn’t on the truck, we source it same week through our distributor. Call (850) 780-8123 with a photo of the stamped series code and we’ll tell you exactly what’s available.
