Quikrete Bathroom Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you’re looking for Quikrete-specific bathroom remodeling work in Miami, the installed cost typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 depending on shower size, waterproofing method, and finish level. We stock the Quikrete waterproofing and mortar products needed for a proper build, and we price the whole job in writing before we start. Most Miami homeowners call us after water has already found its way past a failed pan or cracked grout line into the subfloor. By then the damage is worse than the original quote would have been, every time.

We’re an independent Miami remodeling contractor, not a Quikrete dealer or affiliate. That matters because we’re not trying to sell you a product. We’re trying to build you a shower or bathroom floor that holds water for twenty years in Miami humidity. Quikrete makes the materials we use for that. The difference is we know how they behave in South Florida conditions, which is not the same as how they behave in a product brochure.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete doesn’t make “bathroom models” the way a faucet company makes a faucet line. What they make are the substrate materials a bathroom remodel is built on: Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix for shower pan bases, Quikrete Mortar Mix for setting tile, Quikrete Hydraulic Water-Stop Cement for patching active wall leaks, and Quikrete Concrete Resurfacer for leveling a slab floor before tile goes down. If your bathroom was built in the last 20 years in Miami, there’s a good chance at least one of those products is already under your tile.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix is not the same as Quikrete Concrete Mix. Using Concrete Mix for a shower pan base is a known failure point because the aggregate is too large to pack tightly around the drain flange. We’ve torn out pans from Miami condo buildings and single-family homes in Kendall and Coral Gables where someone used the wrong bag on the wrong layer. The pan looked fine from above for a few years. Underneath, water was wicking through voids and eating the subfloor. Always check the printed bag code. Sand/Topping Mix is 1103. If the original bag says 1101, it was built wrong from day one.
The OEM versus aftermarket question doesn’t apply to Quikrete the way it applies to a faucet cartridge or a cabinet hinge. What applies is using the right Quikrete product for the layer you’re building, and not substituting something from a different brand that cures faster or costs less. We stock Quikrete on our trucks for shower pans, curbs, and bench seats. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the finish side, so the whole bathroom can be sourced and built by one crew.

Signs Your Quikrete Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Grout keeps cracking in the same lines. This usually means movement underneath. A shower pan that wasn’t packed tight enough flexes, and the grout above it cracks first. Re-grouting fixes the symptom, not the pan.
- Water stains on the ceiling below a second-floor bath. By the time a Miami homeowner sees a ceiling stain in the living room, the pan has been leaking for months. The stain is the last clue, not the first.
- A persistent musty smell you can’t place. In Miami’s humidity, a slow leak behind tile rarely shows as standing water. It shows as mold in the wall cavity and a smell that never clears even after cleaning.
- Tile feels spongy or sounds hollow when tapped. This is the classic failed mortar bed. The tile is still there, but the bond underneath is gone. Walking on it breaks the tile further and drives water deeper.
- Cracks in the shower floor that follow a pattern. If the cracks run parallel to the drain or radiate from the drain body, the pan slope was too thin at the edges. Water pools long enough to seep through, and the structure underneath starts to fail.
Isaac Pruett has watched a few of these fail in real time. His observation is usually something like: “The water always tells you where the mistake was made. You just have to be willing to look under the tile.” Simple, but most people aren’t. They paint over the stain and hope it stops. It doesn’t.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A full Quikrete-based bathroom remodel in Miami runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed. A smaller job, like replacing a failed shower pan and the first two rows of tile, lands closer to the $5,900 to $14,160 range. A walk-in shower built from the studs out with a Quikrete pan, cement board, waterproofing, and tile runs $5,310 to $14,160. These are installed numbers, which means the materials, the demolition and disposal, the labor, and the warranty are all in the price.
What drives the range is mostly the existing conditions. A slab-on-grade bathroom in an older Coconut Grove house might have settled, and that changes how much floor prep the Quikrete Resurfacer has to do. A second-floor bathroom in a condo means hauling materials through the building and working around HOA hours. A tile pattern with cut pieces and a curbless entry takes longer than a standard three-wall alcove. Those are real cost drivers. None of them should be a surprise at the end of the job.

We give you a written price before any work starts. Not a verbal estimate that grows, not a range that doubles on the last day. A number. If the work isn’t right within 365 days from the completion date, we come back and make it right at no cost to you. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it covers our bathroom remodeling work in Miami.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the demolition yourself if you’re careful, but we’d rather you didn’t. The reason isn’t the debris. It’s that a homeowner who does their own demo often removes exactly the wrong layer and damages the drain body or the waterproofing behind the tile without realizing it. What should have been a pan replacement becomes a full subfloor repair, and the quote changes. We would rather be the first hands on the job, from the first swing of the hammer.
The high-tension part of a bathroom remodel isn’t springs or cables. It’s water. Once a Quikrete pan is mixed and packed, the slope and the cure time are set. If either is wrong, water sits where it shouldn’t, and the whole assembly fails from the inside out. That’s not a homeowner repair. That’s a trained crew with the right mix ratios and the right experience in Miami’s climate.

FAQs

A properly mixed and installed Quikrete shower pan should last 20 to 30 years in Miami, provided the waterproofing above it stays intact and the slope doesn’t pool water. The failures we see are almost always installation failures, not material failures. The pan was packed too dry, sloped wrong, or the drain was set too high.
Not reliably. You can patch a small crack with hydraulic cement, but a pan that has delaminated from the subfloor or settled around the drain needs to come out and be repacked. Repairing a failing pan in Miami buys you a few months at best. Call (850) 780-8123 for a straight answer on which one you’ve got.
Most Quikrete-based bathroom remodels in Miami take 7 to 14 working days, depending on the size of the shower, the tile pattern, and whether the subfloor needs repair before the new pan goes in. We quote a schedule in writing with the price, and Isaac Pruett is known for finishing within the schedule he quoted.
Yes. We keep Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix, Mortar Mix, Hydraulic Water-Stop, and Resurfacer on hand for standard bathroom builds. If a job needs something specific beyond that, we source it through our supplier before the work starts. There’s no waiting around on material runs mid-job.
