Ameristar Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you have an Ameristar driveway or paver system showing cracks, shifting, or settling, we stock the replacement parts and install them. Typical Ameristar paver and driveway repair in Miami runs $295 to $2,125 depending on how many pavers failed and what’s underneath them. Most owners notice the problem after a hard rain, when water pools where it didn’t before, or when a wheel catches an edge that used to sit flush.
Ameristar pavers and driveway systems are built for northern climates first, which matters more in Miami than you’d think. The base material underneath gets punished by our wet season, and the paver itself takes direct sun all day. We’ve pulled up Ameristar driveways in Coconut Grove where the pavers themselves were fine but the sand base had washed out completely. The part that failed wasn’t visible until we lifted a corner.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar makes three paver lines that show up in Miami driveways: the StoneCraft series, the Heritage slab line, and their newer PermaEdge interlocking system. The PermaEdge is the one we see failing most often here, because the edge restraint channel is a separate molded piece that separates from the main paver under repeated vehicle weight with our saturated soil conditions. The compatibility gotcha: PermaEdge edge pieces are not interchangeable with StoneCraft edge pieces. The locking profiles are different by about 3/16 of an inch, just enough that they won’t seat correctly if mixed.
To identify what you have, flip a loose paver and check the underside. Ameristar stamps their mold number there. StoneCraft pieces show “SC” followed by a four-digit mold code. PermaEdge shows “PE” and the same format. If the stamp is worn off, measure the paver thickness. StoneCraft runs 80mm thick. PermaEdge runs 60mm. That measurement alone tells us which replacement stock to bring.
For Ameristar specifically, we recommend OEM pavers when color matching matters, which is almost always with a driveway that’s been in place more than three years. Aftermarket equivalents will sit slightly proud or slightly low because their thickness tolerance is wider. Ameristar OEM runs ±1mm. Generic paver equivalents run ±3mm to ±4mm. In a driveway, that difference creates a lip that catches tires. We also stock KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone parts for interior work, but for Ameristar driveways, OEM is the right call in nearly every case.

Signs Your Ameristar Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
Here’s what we see in Miami, in order of frequency:
- Water pooling in flat areas after rain. This means the sand base underneath has eroded and the pavers have settled. Left alone, the pavers start rocking under wheel load and crack from the stress.
- A paver that rocks when you step on it. The base material is gone underneath that specific piece. Rocking breaks the locking lugs on the paver edges, and once those break, the paver can’t hold its position even after you re-level the base.
- A visible gap growing between pavers or between pavers and the edge restraint. In our wet season, water gets into that gap and washes out more base every time it rains. The gap doesn’t close itself.
- White chalky residue on the paver surface. This is efflorescence, salt pushed up through the paver by moisture. It tells us water is moving underneath the driveway, which means the base layer or drainage is compromised and more than just surface repair is needed.
- Cracks running through the middle of pavers in a straight line. This is a base failure under the load path, usually a wheel track. Replacing just the cracked pavers without fixing the base means the new ones crack within six months.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Ameristar paver repair in Miami runs $295 to $825 for spot replacement, which covers pulling the failed pavers, re-compacting the base, reinstalling matching OEM pavers, and refinishing the joints. If the base has failed across a larger area, you’re looking at $4,130 to $10,620 for paver patio-level work, or $5,310 to $14,160 for a concrete driveway section rebuild if the Ameristar system is over concrete.
What drives the range is two things: how many pavers need to come out, and whether the base underneath is salvageable. A three-paver spot repair with good base underneath is fast and cheap. A fifteen-paver repair over washed-out base means we’re excavating, re-grading, adding new base material, and compacting before a single paver goes back down.
Every Ameristar repair from us comes with a written price before work starts, including the parts and the labor separated so you see exactly what you’re paying for. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost to you.

You can safely lift a paver and look at what’s underneath. That’s genuinely useful: if you see wet, muddy sand under a rocking paver, that tells you the base is failing and a quick fix won’t hold. You can also clean out debris from between pavers and hosing down efflorescence is fine.
What you shouldn’t do is attempt to re-level pavers yourself. The base compaction matters more than the paver itself, and without a plate compactor and a way to verify compaction, you’ll have the same problem again in eight months. We’ve re-done enough DIY paver repairs in Hialeah and Kendall to know the pattern: the pavers looked fine for a month, then the first heavy rain settled everything unevenly.
If the paver is cracked through and you’re seeing the base below, call us at (850) 780-8123. The rest of the driveway is usually not far behind, and catching the base problem early keeps a $300 repair from becoming a $6,000 replacement.
FAQs

How long do Ameristar pavers last in Florida?
Expect 15 to 25 years from the pavers themselves in Miami’s climate, but the base underneath typically needs attention every 8 to 12 years due to our wet season erosion and soil settlement. Call (850) 780-8123 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your issue is paver-level or base-level.
Can you repair individual Ameristar pavers instead of replacing the whole driveway?
Yes, in most cases we can, as long as we can source the matching mold code and the base underneath is still solid. Spot repairs run $295 to $825 in Miami. If the base is washed out, we’ll show you what we found and give you a written price before any work proceeds.
How long does an Ameristar paver repair take?
A typical spot repair with good base takes one visit, usually 2 to 4 hours including compaction and joint sand. If base rebuild is needed, plan for 1 to 2 days. We’ll tell you the timeline in writing before work starts, and we stick to it.
Do you stock Ameristar parts, or do you have to order them?
We keep common Ameristar StoneCraft and PermaEdge replacement pavers in our Miami stock, including edge pieces and the most common color blends. Odd colors or large quantities may take 5 to 7 business days from the supplier. We’ll confirm parts availability when we give you your estimate.
