CGI Bathroom Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CGI-compatible bathroom remodeling parts and fixtures across Miami, with most complete bathroom remodels running $10,620 to $33,040 depending on size and material choices. When a CGI shower valve, cartridge, or trim kit fails, we can usually diagnose it in one visit and have the replacement installed the same week. Most homeowners call us after noticing a slow drip that won’t stop, water temperature that swings hot and cold on its own, or a handle that suddenly feels loose or grinds when turned.

The honest picture: CGI built bathrooms to a price point, not a spec sheet. That means several of the original components, especially cartridges and diverter stems, were never designed to be serviced in place. When they wear out, the fix is often a full valve replacement rather than a ten-minute cartridge swap. We handle that reality every week in Miami condos and single-family homes from Kendall to Coral Gables, and we’ll tell you the truth about what’s worth fixing before we ever quote a number.
Mason Remodeling Co Miami is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with CGI, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a crew that has been pulling apart CGI bathrooms in South Florida for over a decade and knows exactly which parts fail first in our hard water and humidity.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI bathrooms in Miami fall into two broad camps: the condominium-spec packages installed during the mid-2000s condo boom, and the single-family residential packages that went into homes built between roughly 2004 and 2015. The parts differ more than you’d expect, and it’s a common compatibility gotcha that catches people ordering replacements online.
The condo-spec CGI lines typically used a 3/4-inch rough-in valve with a pressure-balancing cartridge and a square trim plate held on by two concealed set screws. The residential lines often step up to a thermostatic valve with integrated volume control, and the cartridge will not physically seat into the smaller condo-spec housing. We’ve had Miami condo owners bring us a residential cartridge they bought online and found it would not fit their valve body, even though both packages said “CGI” on the box.
How to identify what you have: remove the trim plate (two screws for condo-spec, four for residential) and look at the valve body. A stamped “3/4” near the inlet means condo-spec. A separate temperature limit stop and a visible dial ring means residential thermostatic. For aftermarket equivalents, we’ve had good results with Danco and BrassCraft replacement stems on CGI condo-spec valves, but the residential thermostatic cartridges should be OEM or a verified thermostatic match, not a generic pressure-balance cartridge mislabeled as universal. It isn’t universal, and we’ve torn out too many “ten-minute fixes” that flooded Miami homeowners’ drywall because the wrong cartridge was forced in.

Signs Your CGI Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Water temperature swings wildly while the shower is running. This is the pressure-balancing cartridge wearing out. As the internal spool degrades, it can’t compensate for pressure changes when a toilet flushes or a washing machine cycles.
- A persistent drip from the tub spout or showerhead that tightening the handle won’t fix. The ceramic discs inside the CGI cartridge have developed a pinhole or surface scoring. Tightening the handle just grinds the damage deeper and makes the eventual replacement harder.
- The handle turns past its normal stop point or won’t return to center. The return spring inside the valve body has weakened or snapped. This is a repair-or-replace call, not a cartridge-only fix.
- Mineral crust or green corrosion at the base of the trim plate. Miami water is hard, and CGI’s original plumber’s putty and O-rings were not rated for a decade of our mineral load. The valve body itself is usually fine, but the seals have dissolved.
- Low water pressure from the showerhead but normal pressure at the sink. The CGI cartridge’s inlet screens are clogged with calcium and sediment. We can sometimes clear them, but if the screens are original, replacement is the better long-term move.
None of these symptoms gets better on its own. The drip you ignore today is the drywall repair you’ll pay for in six months when water works its way behind the tile and into the stud cavity.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a CGI shower valve and trim replacement in Miami, you’re looking at $945 to $3,540 installed for most single-valve jobs. A full bathroom remodel that includes a new CGI-compatible valve, surround, and fixtures runs $10,620 to $33,040. A walk-in shower conversion with CGI-compatible plumbing lands between $5,310 and $14,160.
What drives the range is what’s behind the wall. If the original CGI valve was installed with a threaded connection and we can access it through the trim opening, it’s a straightforward swap. If the valve is sweated in place behind tile, if there’s no access panel, or if the wall cavity holds surprises like galvanized pipe that’s rusting from the inside, the labor goes up because we’re opening the wall and repairing it properly, not patching it and walking away.
Every quote includes the part, the labor, the wall repair, and the trim. You get a written price before we start, and a written guarantee for 365 days from the completion date. If the repair fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a promotion. That’s the Threshold Standard every Mason Remodeling job carries.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely identify which CGI valve model you have by removing the trim plate and reading the stampings. You can check whether the shutoff valves at the fixture are working, since that determines whether we can work without turning off the building water in a condo. What you shouldn’t do is attempt a cartridge or valve replacement on a pressurized line without knowing exactly how to isolate and drain the line first.
We’ve walked into Miami condos where someone’s YouTube tutorial went wrong and a pressurized shower valve let go mid-swap. The water damage to the unit below cost more than the original repair would have, and the condo association’s insurance didn’t cover it. If you’re comfortable identifying the part and shutting down the water, we’ll install the part you provide at our standard labor rate, no attitude. But most owners in our experience are better served by one visit from a crew that arrives with the right part on the truck, a photo ID badge at the door, and a written price before the water gets shut off.

FAQs

With Miami’s hard water and humidity, we typically see CGI original cartridges fail somewhere between 8 and 14 years. Condo-spec pressure-balancing cartridges lean closer to 8 years; residential thermostatic cartridges can reach 14 if the water softening situation is good. If your home is approaching that age range and the shower is acting up, you’re not unlucky. You’re on schedule.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A clogged inlet screen can be cleaned. A worn pressure-balancing spool cannot be rebuilt meaningfully, and any cartridge that’s letting water past the handle is a replace, not a repair. We’ll tell you which one you have before quoting. Call (850) 780-8123 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing.
A standard single-valve CGI cartridge replacement runs 60 to 90 minutes if the shutoffs work and the valve is accessible. A full valve replacement with wall repair is a half-day job. A complete bathroom remodel with a new CGI-compatible valve is typically 3 to 5 weeks depending on tile and surround choices.
We stock the most common CGI condo-spec cartridges, stems, and trim plate hardware on our service vehicles. Residential thermostatic cartridges are usually special-ordered to match the exact valve body, which adds about 2 to 3 days. We also stock compatible parts for the other brands we service regularly: KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone fixtures and surfaces. If you want to know whether we have your part before you book, call (850) 780-8123 and ask.
