Boral Kitchen Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide
A full Boral kitchen remodel in Miami typically runs $16,520 – $53,100, depending on cabinet layout, countertop material, and whether you’re keeping the existing footprint or moving plumbing and electrical. We stock Boral-compatible cabinet components, trim, and hardware locally, and most cabinet-only replacements can be installed within a week of your free estimate. What we see most often in Miami: Boral cabinets that looked fine at the ten-year mark suddenly show water damage at the sink base, delaminated door edges from humidity, or hinge plates pulling out of soft MDF stiles. Here’s the part nobody tells you: Boral’s frameless cabinet line uses 3mm edge banding that fails faster in South Florida’s humidity than the 1mm PVC banding on comparable brands. Once that edge cracks, moisture gets in and the door core swells within months. You’re not imagining it, and it’s not your cleaning products.

Mason Remodeling Co Miami is an independent kitchen remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with Boral, but we’ve torn out, repaired, and replaced enough Boral kitchens across Miami to know exactly which parts fail and which ones hold up.
Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral manufactured cabinet lines under several names over the years, and the hardware specs changed between series. The three you’ll see most often in Miami homes: Boral Classic (face-frame, 1/2″ plywood boxes, standard overlay doors), Boral Euro (frameless, 3/4″ boxes, full-overlay doors with 35mm cup hinges), and Boral Select (frameless, full-extension drawer guides, soft-close hardware). The compatibility gotcha: Boral Euro and Boral Select share door profiles but use different hinge plate heights. Euro takes a 0mm plate; Select takes a 9mm plate. If you order the wrong one, your door hangs 1/8″ proud and never sits flush. We keep both on the truck in Miami so we never have to second-trip a job over a hinge plate.
How to Identify Your Boral Cabinet Line
Open a drawer and look at the drawer box corners. Boral Classic uses stapled 1/2″ plywood with a stapled wood drawer front. Boral Select uses dovetailed 5/8″ maple drawer boxes with a separate decorative front. Boral Euro sits in between: doweled 1/2″ boxes, metal drawer glides. You’ll also find a small foil label inside the sink base cabinet with a serial and lot number. The lot number is the useful one. It tells us which hardware generation we’re dealing with before we ever drill a hole.
OEM vs. Aftermarket for Boral
Here’s the straight answer. For hinges, drawer glides, and shelf pins, Buy OEM. Buy exact-original Boral hardware. The hole spacing and plate geometry are precise, and we’ve had otherwise good aftermarket hinges bind after six months. For cabinet boxes or face frames, quality plywood is quality plywood. A Birch-veneer 3/4″ plywood replacement box from a skilled carpenter in Miami will outlast the original Boral MDF box every time. For doors, refacing makes sense if the boxes are sound and only the edges are blown. Miami’s humidity and salt air accelerate edge-band failure by roughly 40% versus a dry climate. If your doors show delamination at the bottom edges, replacement doors beat re-banding every time. Re-banded edges peel again within two years here.

Signs Your Boral Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Water staining or black mold at the sink base cabinet floor. This is the classic Boral failure point in Miami. The factory gasket around the supply lines dries out, a small drip forms, and MDF wicks moisture like a sponge. Once the floor swells, the cabinet’s structural integrity is gone. We cut in a new plywood cabinet box with a moisture-resistant coating on the base.
- Door edges that look “fuzzy” or split at the bottom corners. The PVC edge banding has delaminated from the MDF core. Miami heat softens the adhesive bond, and humidity does the rest. Replacing just the doors preserves the boxes and cuts your cost dramatically.
- Hinges that sag, pop, or pull screws from the door. MDF door stiles lose their grip on hinge screws over time, especially near the cooktop where heat cycles are constant. A sagging door is a hinge plate problem first, but if the screw holes are wallowed out, the door is done.
- Drawers that grind, stick, or fall off the glides. Boral’s early bottom-mount glides had plastic roller wheels that flatten and crack after about a decade in Miami’s humidity. Soft-close undermount glides are a direct retrofit and the single best upgrade we do on Boral kitchens.
- The tell-tale ammonia smell inside a lower cabinet. That’s decomposing MDF. It means water got in, the urea-formaldehyde resin is breaking down, and the cabinet is releasing exactly what you’re smelling. Don’t ignore it. That cabinet needs to come out.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Miami, here’s what you should budget. A full Boral kitchen remodel runs $16,520 – $53,100, and the spread comes down to three things: whether we keep your layout, what countertop you choose, and whether your boxes are salvageable. A small kitchen remodel lands between $10,620 and $23,600. If you just need cabinet replacement, that’s $4,720 – $15,340, depending on linear feet and whether we install new doors only or full boxes. Countertops run $2,360 – $7,670 in Miami stone yards for quartz or granite; backsplash adds $945 – $2,950. A new island starts at $3,540 and tops out around $11,800 with stone and electrical.

You can safely handle two things: shelf pins and door bumpers. That’s about it. Replacing hinges sounds simple until you drill a 35mm cup hole one millimeter out of alignment and now your door binds or has a visible gap. Removing a Boral cabinet without damaging adjacent boxes requires a oscillating saw, patience, and a sense for how the installer joined the boxes; we often find a hidden screw driven through a face frame. And electrical or plumbing connections inside lower cabinets are not DIY territory. A flooded sink base in a Miami condo means water damage claims, HOA involvement, and mold mitigation if you handle it wrong. Call (850) 780-8123 and tell me what you need done. We’ll tell you what it costs and when it’s finished, and we’ll mean both.
FAQs

Twelve to eighteen years is realistic in Miami, depending on ventilation and how close the cabinets are to the cooking surface or sink. Exposure to salt air, humidity cycles, and slab-on-grade moisture cut that roughly in half compared to dry climates. If your Boral kitchen is past year fifteen and you’re noticing door edge delamination, you’re at the repair-or-replace decision point. Call (850) 780-8123 for an honest read.
Sometimes. A sagging hinge with intact screw holes is repairable. A water-damaged sink base or a swollen door core is not. MDF cannot be un-swollen. The good news: replacing individual boxes and doors costs a fraction of a full remodel, and we do it regularly throughout Miami. We’ll give you a straight number before any work starts.
Cabinet box and door replacements in a standard Miami kitchen take two to five days, depending on plumbing and countertop coordination. A full kitchen remodel with stone, tile, and electrical typically runs three to five weeks from demo to final walkthrough. We’ll put the schedule in writing with your written estimate.
